Target Practice

Posted on June 12th, 2009 :: 2:37 pm by Greg

Today just after lunch, Ian and Alex were testing out a new Nerf dart gun set. It apparently includes a vest with little targets on it that presumably one or both combatants would don as they battle it out. In today’s test however, Kirstie was wearing the vest. (And the cool, protective googles.) And she…

This May Be Telling…

Posted on June 1st, 2009 :: 2:04 pm by Greg

One of the projects for today was to burn a couple boxes full of old receipts and other financial documents. Jen started it with the kids, but then Dad was called in to help get the fire going more. (And, once Dad was pulled in, well, he had to make sure the project was completed!)…

The Timeline

Posted on May 15th, 2009 :: 8:41 am by Greg

This morning I happened to catch a glimpse of a cute photo of our daughter, Julia. It was taken when she was two years old (she’s standing next to a gigantic number 2). She’s now three, and just as cute. Maybe cuter. For some reason, when I saw the photo, I thought how it would…

The Boys Room

Posted on April 23rd, 2009 :: 11:29 pm by Greg

Tonight I took my daughters to the bathroom while we were out for dinner. On the way down the bathroom hall, our five year old said somewhat sheepishly, “Do we have to go in the boys room, Dad?” I was a bit surprised by her sudden awareness that we would be using the “boys room”,…

Cooperation

Posted on April 18th, 2009 :: 7:28 am by Greg

Yesterday the kids were all having trouble coexisting, and it was driving a very tired Mommy crazy! So, after they made peace with Mom, (and on a bit of a whim on my part) I gave them an assignment. All four of them were to work together to create a story – typed up on…

Kids Shows @ iTunes

Posted on April 10th, 2009 :: 11:42 am by Greg

I just spotted an ad on the iTunes store homepage today… something about $0.99 kids shows. Intrigued, I clicked through to find this page, full of not only current shows which are near and dear to the hearts of our kids (Fetch with Ruff Ruffman, Dora, Oswald, etc.) but also awesomely old shows like The…

Different View of Education

Posted on April 1st, 2009 :: 10:58 pmFebruary 22nd, 2012 :: 3:35 pm by Greg

Last night—after much scheming and manipulating of time and space—we were able to attend a curriculum event for a home school group of which we are members. The event offered parents a chance to share curriculum they use, why they use it, and learn from other parents as each shared what worked—and doesn’t work—for them….

Made Me Smile…

Posted on March 30th, 2009 :: 11:56 am by Greg

On a lighter note, on my way home to my family yesterday afternoon (from my work that morning) I spotted a piece of paper with some drawings our five-year-old had made sometime earlier that week. I smiled at their amorphous cuteness. Fun to see what her mind and tiny hands had created. But then I…

You Can’t Make This Stuff Up, Folks

Posted on March 11th, 2009 :: 10:59 pm by Greg

It all started last Monday. Meaning, ten days ago or so. The previous day we had a mini-birthday party for our oldest daughter, Kirstie. Some friends came over, we played games, we sang birthday songs, we ate birthday cake, we opened birthday presents. It was wonderful. But that night, pretty sure it was the middle…

God Saved Our Bacon

Posted on January 25th, 2009 :: 12:06 am by Greg

It’s been a full week. Fuller than usual for some reason. (I’m not sure “fuller” is a word, but, in this case it seems to fit.) Each day has ended very late, and been full of either lots of one thing, or many different things. But whatever the landscape of the day, each has ended…
