Christians Being Christian

Posted on April 28th, 2014 :: 7:30 amApril 27th, 2014 :: 9:27 am by Greg

I am not very comfortable in “Christian” settings. For a long time now, I’ve said that I “don’t like Christians”, but that’s meant to be at least somewhat tongue-in-cheek. I know that Jesus is life, that there is no life outside of him; and for me, everything I do, and see, and experience runs through…

Possessive, Plural, and Plural Possessive (Apostrophe Apostasy!)

Posted on April 26th, 2014 :: 7:58 amDecember 22nd, 2018 :: 3:45 pm by Greg

The English language can certainly be confusing. Add grammar and punctuation to that, and there are all sorts of possible dangers ahead. Today I’d like to specifically address the use of (or rather, the non-use of) the apostrophe when pluralizing surnames. You see, in far too many communications from individuals and organizations, the apostrophe is…

Jesus + Nothing = Everything

Posted on April 22nd, 2014 :: 4:13 pm by Greg

A good friend of ours read a book a while ago and thought that I might enjoy it, too. She was right. What I most enjoyed about this book was it’s emphatic emphasis (is that a thing?) on the singular fullness of Jesus. (Which, I’m sure you already gleaned from the title.) The concept is,…

There Is No Sin In Him

Posted on April 18th, 2014 :: 9:22 am by Greg

Buckle up, pardners… this may get a little heretical. (Just warnin’ ya!) In many places within the pages of the Bible we read that Jesus was without sin. He who had no sin became sin for us… He is the spotless lamb… He faced all the same temptations we do, but he did not sin….

Respect

Posted on April 16th, 2014 :: 7:00 amApril 16th, 2014 :: 6:24 pm by Greg

What is respect? What images come to mind when you hear the word? Do you think of military chain of command, with each subordinate respecting their commanding officer? Or maybe a similar, thought slightly more informal respect, shown by a young person toward an elderly ancestor? A feeling of deep admiration for someone or something…

What Makes A Good Story?

Posted on April 11th, 2014 :: 9:52 pmApril 12th, 2014 :: 6:21 am by Greg

Who doesn’t love a good story? We are drawn into some tales, so much that we feel we can’t turn away. We can’t put the book down. We are mesmerized. What is it that grips us so? Is it a likable character, or characters, who draw us into their own stories—almost as if they were…

The Church Book: Revisited

Posted on April 4th, 2014 :: 4:02 pmApril 4th, 2014 :: 4:46 pm by Greg

I came across a copy of my “Church book”, There’s The Steeple… Here’s The Church!, just today, and on a whim I picked it up and flipped through it. For some reason, the epilogue, titled “Concluding Remarks”, caught my eye this time. If you think the book is anti-church, these words should dispel that notion….

Fading Away

Posted on March 25th, 2014 :: 4:34 pm by Greg

Stop loving this evil world and all that it offers you, for when you love the world, you show that you do not have the love of the Father in you. For the world offers only the lust for physical pleasure, a craving for everything we see, and pride in our possessions. These are not…

Frozen

Posted on March 24th, 2014 :: 9:56 am by Greg

This past weekend we watched the Disney movie, Frozen. Twice, actually. (I know, we’re a bit behind.) Both times as the end credits were rolling (even knowing what was coming the second time) I felt impressed. Not by any technology or effects, though the animation was flawless. It was the story. The princesses are beautiful…

I’m Just A Bus Driver

Posted on March 18th, 2014 :: 4:33 pm by Greg

Well, not just… But, as of today, I’m officially authorized by the State of New York to transport students in large, yellow vehicles. Again. (I previously drove school busses for two different school districts more than fifteen years ago now!) Last fall, as I contemplated ways that I could feasibly bring in a little more…
