Contentment

Estimated reading time: 2 minute(s)

We were noticing the other day… there are many people who are not content in life. Most everything that comes from their mouth is negative, or just sad. Many of the politicians are this way, and those who comment on things political (talk show hosts and whatnot) Even many folks we know. Even many Christians (who are the one groups of people in the world who should have NOTHING to complain about, cause we have hope in Jesus that supercedes all the bad stuff here…)

And we just found ourselves wishing we could help somehow. That we could somehow infuse a bit of the optimism and hope that we have most every day. (I say most every day, because obviously, we are human, and it is hard to have a joy-filled heart everyday… just because it is…)

But what a world this would be if there were no complaining… if we never even thought to compare ourselves to others, or just others to our ideals. Or if we could be content with the things that God has given us instead of complaining and pining for more or different. If we could just live every moment as though that were the greatest gift we’d ever been given, and relish the fullness of life in God at THAT moment.

That would be better.

The Bible says these things to us:

1Th. 5:16-18

Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

Col. 3:12-15

Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.

1Th. 5:11

Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.

God please help us to see the good that is around us and let you take care of the injustice, and only to speak words that build up and encourage and to be hopeful and patient in You.
